Book Review | The Walls of Cartagena
by Tom Pohrt

Score: 4

This is a great story with a Jewish twist. The Spanish Inquisition intrudes on a young, black slave’s’ life, causing him to review his life in a very special way. The mitzvot of “Redeeming the Captive,” “Caring for the Sick” and many others are reflected throughout this extraordinary saga. And though at the end we learn it is actually based on the life of a preistly saint, nothing in the story comes across as Christian at all. Basically this is an excellent book about good people joining together to fight evil.

I highly recommend it for all Jewish libraries.
