Book Review | The Apprentice’s Masterpiece
by Little, Melanie

Score: 3

An interesting story set in 15th century Spain during the rise of Queen Isabella and King Ferdinand. Peaceful days of religious coexistence have come to an end. Told in free verse, this is a story of Conversos – Jews who converted to Christianity – and Moriscos – Muslims who converted to Christianity. Highly descriptive and very emotional, we follow a master and his slave as they make compromises to “live” their lives in a very divided world. Boys would especially enjoy this adventure-tale.

I recommend this for Jewish libraries.
