Book Review | Penina Levine Is a Potato Pancake
by Rebecca O'Connell

Score: 2

This is another story about Penina Levine, this time set during the Hanukkah season. This time Penina and her best friend must cope with losing their favorite teacher and a huge blizzard. Most importantly, however, Penina must cope with a visit from her grandparents that begins with a fight between her mother and grandmother. There is a lot of problem solving, which in the end Penina is able to figure out. My issue with these books is the over-attention the parents pay to Penina’s younger sister, Mimsy. I find myself getting angry on Penina’s behalf over their behavior. Nonetheless, this is a nice book and an easy read.

I would recommend it for Jewish libraries.
