Book Review | A Grandma/Grandpa Like Yours
by Andria Warmflash Rosenbaum

Score: 3

This beautiful two-sided book is delightful in its rhyming verse and it’s beautiful illustrations. Side one A Grandma Like Yours illustrates all different animal grandmas, bubbes, savtas and nanas, doing all the wonderful things that grandmas do for their grandchildren – lighting Shabbat candles, making challah, delivering Shelach Manot baskets, etc.  Side Two A Grandpa Like Yours describes all the different things zaydes, sabas, grandpas and papas do throughout the year for their grandchildren – reading aloud, blowing the shofar, making matzot, planting Tu B’Shevat trees, etc.  After reading both sides through you come to a middle picture of a grandma or grandpa in a boat on a lake with their grandchild. This picture is beautifully crafted so that depending on what you are reading, you wind up in exactly the right spot.

The rhyming text is fun and entertaining. The illustrations are soft and beautiful. There is a wonderful glossary in the back/front of the book. There are never enough grandma/grandpa books in the library. This one is excellently done. I highly recommend it for libraries.
